From Ibadan Bootcamp to Big Stages: Joy’s Audio Girl Journey

At Audio Girl, we believe every woman in audio deserves a chance to grow with the right skills, community, and access. Joy’s story is proof of how much can happen in just one year when passion meets opportunity.
The Beginning
Joy first attended our 3-day Live Sound Bootcamp for beginners in Ibadan (2024). She was already volunteering in her church, exploring sound mixing, but she needed structure and hands-on training. The bootcamp gave her just that — a place to learn the fundamentals, practice in real time, and connect with other women like her.
The Next Step
Hungry to keep growing, Joy joined our Producer Series Recording Bootcamp, shadowing Febe as an engineering assistant. She learned how to set up gear, troubleshoot, and keep sessions running without hiccups. It was her first taste of working closely behind the console.

The Breakthrough
Months later, she joined our Audio Girl Tour of Showgear Limited, one of Africa’s biggest audiovisual companies. There, she got to explore a professional production house and meet leaders in the industry — including the COO, who also sits on Audio Girl’s Advisory Board.
Joy had already reached out before, asking if Audio Girl could support her in finding an internship/NYSC placement. After that introduction, and endorsement from Audio Girl she applied and was accepted.
Where She Is Now
Today, Joy is interning at Showgear as an audio tech, working alongside professionals on major shows like Johnny Drille’s concert, Make Music Lagos, and productions at Eko Hotel. She’s gaining experience, building her portfolio, and shaping her future as a live sound engineer.
All of this in just one year.
The Reflection
Joy’s journey shows what happens when passion meets opportunity and community. She started as a volunteer with questions and curiosity; now she’s part of the teams behind some of Nigeria’s biggest stages.
Imagine where she’ll be in five years.
And more importantly, imagine where you could be, one year from today, if you took the same step.
